There are a range of scholarships available to international students who qualify, with options offered by Education Providers and the State and Federal Governments.

A scholarship is financial assistance provided to a student to help support their study. It could be given to the student in the form of a cash payment, payment towards their course feeds, or a discount on their course fees. 

There are a range of scholarships available in Western Australia to international students who qualify, with options offered by Education Providers and the State and Federal Governments.

The application process

Every scholarship has its own unique application process, start date, requirements, and eligibility criteria.

In general, the application process for scholarships in Perth usually involves submitting: 

  • An online application form
  • Academic transcripts
  • Evidence of English proficiency
  • A personal statement
  • A letter of recommendation

Scholarships for international students in Perth

The Western Australian Government understands the cost of living and studying abroad as an international student.

Financial assistance is available through several unique new student incentives and scholarships to make settling in Western Australia easier.

Incentives include:

  • $50,000 The Western Australian Premier’s University Scholarship

    0 x $50,000 scholarships available - A one-off scholarship for high-achieving international students towards course fees and university costs. Applications for Semester 1 2026 open 1 August 2025.
  • $20,000 The Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary
    50 x $20,000 scholarships available - Provides up to 50 successful international Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) graduates with a one-off payment of $20,000 to assist with their living, travel and study expenses. Applications are now open on a rolling basis.
  • $5,000 Regional Bursary for TAFE International Students
    200 x $5,000 bursaries available -  For a limited time, eligible international students starting an approved course at a TAFE WA regional college in 2026 will receive $5,000 to help them to study, work, and live in regional Western Australia.

When studying in Australia, international students can apply for scholarships from their education provider that will help cover or partially cover various fees and expenses.

Scholarships are available from a wide range of institutions in Perth, including all five of Perth's universities, and various higher education providers and pathway colleges.

The types of scholarships on offer include:

  • Full scholarships (that cover all of your tuition fees)
  • Scholarships that offer a discount on your tuition fees
  • Free accommodation scholarships

The Australian Government offers the Australia Awards Scholarship, administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which is a long-term award provided to emerging leaders from developing countries, particularly those countries located in the Indo-Pacific region. The scholarship generally includes:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Return air travel
  • Establishment allowance towards accommodation expenses, text books, and study materials
  • A fortnightly contribution to living expenses
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award
  • And more

  • The University of Western Australia offers their “Global Excellence Scholarship”, which is for high-achieving undergraduate and postgraduate students from eligible countries, as well as several other international scholarships.   • Curtin University offers four main scholarships for international students, including their Merit-Based Scholarship, their Credit for Recognised Learning Merit Scholarship, their Year 12 Scholarship (for international students who completed an Australian high school qualification), and their Alumni Scholarship. Each scholarship at different institutions has its own unique eligibility criteria and application process. Every institution has its own set of rules, but generally speaking, you cannot obtain more than one scholarship from an institution at a time. However, you usually can receive a scholarship and a bursary at the same time.
