Hello! My name is Ghazy, and I’m originally from Indonesia. I studied a Bachelor of Commerce with a Double Major in Marketing and Tourism, Hospitality, and Events at Curtin University, and later, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Digital Marketing.
I moved to Australia before turning 18, straight out of high school, driven by a dream to study abroad, start fresh, and challenge myself. I chose Perth for its culturally diverse environment, its affordability compared to other Australian cities, and its proximity to home.
Studying in Perth gave me more than just an education, it gave me lifelong friends and unique opportunities.
My time at Curtin was enriched by internships, volunteering abroad in Vietnam, and participating in a social entrepreneurship competition. I also joined university clubs, which made my experience much more than just hitting the books. Although COVID-19 interrupted part of my university journey, leading to time spent in lockdown and studying from home, the support from Curtin and Perth’s international community helped me adapt and grow. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade these experiences for anything.
After graduation, I was fortunate to find a job relatively quickly, largely because of the extracurricular activities and certifications I had pursued. Networking through the Curtin Marketing Association and completing multiple internships were pivotal in helping me stand out. I also took time to build hard skills through certifications such as Google's Fundamentals of Digital Marketing, HubSpot Inbound Marketing, SEMrush SEO Toolkit, and more. These certifications are free and an excellent way to gain industry knowledge, especially for anyone starting out in the field.
Today, I work as an SEO Executive at Digital Hitmen, a local SEO agency. I started in a part-time role and later transitioned into a full-time position. Over the past 2.5 years, I’ve found immense satisfaction in helping clients drive traffic, improve brand awareness, and generate new leads. My job is challenging but incredibly rewarding because it allows me to make a real, positive impact. The dynamic nature of SEO also means there’s always something new to learn, whether it’s about emerging trends or evolving industries.
Perth’s vibrant marketing community is filled with knowledgeable professionals, offering endless opportunities to learn and grow.
The competitive nature of digital marketing and SEO in Australia has shaped my journey as I’ve learned from some of the brightest minds in the field. Their guidance helped me achieve milestones like being a finalist for the Best Travel SEO Campaign at the 2025 APAC Search Awards and winning Best Local Search Marketing Initiative - SEO at the 2024 Search Engine Land Awards, both highlights of my career so far.
Initially, I wasn’t sure if Perth was the right place for me long-term. However, between the welcoming lifestyle, the incredible people, and the professional opportunities available here, I’m more than happy to stay and continue building my career in this city.
If I could offer advice to others considering studying or working in Perth, I would say to try new things, build connections through networking, and explore entry-level job opportunities on platforms like Seek, LinkedIn, and Indeed. Upskilling through certifications is another great way to stand out. Perth has given me so much, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. For anyone considering this city as their destination, I’d say go for it, you won’t regret it!
