Are you an international student in Perth and need help with your tax return?

Our ATO-trained and accredited StudyPerth volunteers are here to provide you with free, confidential assistance with your tax return for the 2024-25 financial year! (1st July 2024 - 30th June 2025)

  • When: Every Tuesday and Saturday from 15th September - 28th October
    • Tuesdays: 10:00am - 1:00pm
    • Saturdays: 12:00pm - 4:00pm
    • Sessions are 45 minutes long
  • Where: StudyPerth Student Hub - 555 Wellington Street, Perth

Registration is on a first come first served basis - there are no advance bookings. Come down to the hub at one of the times listed above and if there is a wait you will be asked to leave your name and phone number. Then, you will be notified when it is your turn.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible for this service, you must be an international student in Perth, Western Australia who:

  • Has a tax file number (TFN)
  • Earned $70,000 or less in the 2024-25 financial year

You are not eligible for tax help if you:

  • Work as a contractor - for example a contract cleaner, taxi or uber driver
  • Run a business, including as a sole trader
  • Have partnership or trust matters
  • Own or sell shares or have an investment property
  • Have capital gains tax (CGT)
  • Receive royalties
  • Receive distributions from a trust, other than a managed fund
  • Receive foreign income, that is not a foreign pension or annuity

What do I bring?

Make sure you're prepared for your tax help session by preparing the following items:

  • Your myGov username/email address and password (if you have forgotten your login details or don't have an account, our volunteers can help!)
  • Your mobile phone to receive your myGov SMS security code
  • Your bank account details (BSB and account number)
  • Your tax file number (TFN)
  • An original or amended notice of assessment from any one of the last 5 years
  • Income statements or payment summaries from all sources
  • All receipts for gifts, donations, and work-related expenses
  • Details of any child support payments made
  • Details of your spouse's (married or de-facto) taxable income or a reasonable estimate if you had a spouse at any time during the financial year
