Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Hasit Gadani, and I am from Mumbai, India. I hold a Master’s degree in Project Management from Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Hons.) from Coventry University, United Kingdom. My time in the UK greatly deepened my appreciation for diversity. After graduation, I worked in Turkey as a Design Engineer, where I discovered my true strengths lay in management rather than engineering. This realization led me to pursue advanced studies in project management in Australia.

In addition to my professional journey, I have a long-standing passion for cooking. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I ran a successful home-based pizza delivery service. Recently, I launched my own YouTube channel, where I am focused on growing my presence in the culinary space. I also have a strong interest in football, having earned several awards during my college years, and remain an enthusiastic supporter of Chelsea Football Club.

What was your main reason(s) to select Perth as your study destination?

There are a couple of reasons - mainly the weather and location because it is quite a bit like Mumbai, as both cities are on the west coast. Secondly, I had heard Perth has the best sunsets in the world (I can now prove it to others!). And lastly, I wanted to study at the same university as Hugh Jackman did :D

Are there any notable experiences you’d like to share from your time studying?

  1. I had the privilege of representing ECU at the CISWA conference, where I shared my experience studying at ECU with government officials and industry partners.
  2. As President of Enactus ECU, I led the successful "Sustainability Festival" project for two consecutive years. This initiative aimed to educate the community on the importance of behavioural changes that promote a sustainable lifestyle. Our efforts led Enactus ECU to reach the semi-final round at the Enactus Nationals Showcase.
  3. A highlight of my time at ECU was being selected as the graduate speaker at my graduation ceremony. It was an honour and a moment of immense pride - one that words cannot fully capture.

What are the top 3 skills you need in your role as an Project Officer?

  1. Effective communication
  2. Collaboration and teamwork
  3. Attention to detail

What have you enjoyed the most about living and studying in Perth?

The best thing about living and studying in Perth for me was that I didn't expect that it would give me the opportunities it has given me to date. I didn't expect to meet people who are so supportive and celebrate my wins and losses as their own. I love going for walks at different beaches but my personal favourites are Scarborough and Iluka beach.

What would you say to students thinking of coming to Perth to study?

Take that leap of faith. If you are overthinking or doubting coming to Perth, please don't. There will be ups and downs, but I am sure this city will provide you with what you want and are looking for. It worked for me and I know many others for whom it did work.

If you could tell your graduate self one piece of career advice, what would it be?

Don't be afraid to ask, because the answer will always be no if you don't.
