Hello! I'm Xudong Ying, but you can call me Sheldon. I'm currently pursuing a Master of Information Technology at the University of Western Australia. Originally from Fujian Province, China, I began my career as an architect, where I developed a keen eye for design and an appreciation for innovative thinking. However, my passion for technology and digital innovation led me to transition into the tech world in 2022, where I have been dedicated to expanding my expertise every since.

Outside of my professional life, I'm an enthusiast of both photography and vlogging. I love taking my camera to explore new surroundings, capturing unique moments that tell a story, and recording life's adventures through vlogs. These activities allow me to express my creativity and connect with the world around me. I am also passionate about sports and outdoor activities, particularly tennis and cycling, which help me stay active and provide a great way to unwind and enjoy a balanced lifestyle.

My connection to Western Australia began in 2016 as an exchange student, and I was immediately drawn to the region's unique blend of a relaxed lifestyle, cultural diversity, and academic excellence. Coming from a mountainous and often rainy area in southern China, I found the sunny weather and beautiful beaches of Perth particularly captivating.

Perth offers a perfect balance between a serene environment and a vibrant community, making it an ideal place for both personal and professional development.

The top 3 things I love about Western Australia:

  1. Balanced lifestyle and cultural diversity: Perth offers a fantastic work-life balance and a rich multicultural environment that encourages exploration and personal growth.
  2. Breathtaking natural scenery: from pristine beaches to unique wildlife, WA is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike, offering endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
  3. Affordable living expenses: Perth provides a more affordable cost of living, making it an attractive place for students and young professionals to thrive.

Once I graduate, armed with a Master of Information Technology, I aim to integrate modern digital technologies, such as software development, artificial intelligence, and cloud services, into traditional industries. My background in architecture has given me a strong foundation in project management and problem-solving, which I now apply to tech-driven solutions.

Moving forward, I aim to drive digital transformation in traditional sectors such as engineering, mining, and energy, utilising advancements in artificial intelligence and data analytics to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and foster innovation. I aspire to work in roles that encourage collaboration and continuous learning, where I can contribute to projects that make a meaningful impact, promoting sustainable and forward-thinking practices within the industry.
