About the institution

We are a progressive independent school of the Uniting Church, with a reputation for excellence in teaching and developing well-rounded young people over the last forty years.

With two campuses in Perth’s northern suburbs, Duncraig and Carramar, the School offers a holistic education from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. 

St Stephen’s School was the first school established by the Uniting Church (WA) following its inception in 1977, uniting Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational churches. The School was established in 1984 at the current Duncraig campus site. As Perth’s northern corridor continued to flourish with new families, the Carramar campus was built and officially opened in 2001. In 2011, an Early Learning Centre for Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 opened at Hepburn Heights, Padbury, to complete St Stephen’s School’s multi-campus options for families in Perth’s north.  

St Stephen was chosen as the School’s namesake in recognition of his character, service, wisdom and faith, which aligned with the values embraced by the School and its community.

Early Years

St Stephen’s School uses the Early Years Framework Belonging, Being and Becoming where providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for students to try new things and form positive relationships with classmates and teachers, is at the forefront of school life. 

Classrooms are our students’ base for learning, but their days also see them create and discover in the outdoors, using our nature play areas, bush school settings and other areas across our campuses to learn in an open-air environment. Our students also take part in age-appropriate camps, with Year 1s and 2s boosting their confidence away from home with a special sleepover at School with friends. 

Years 3 – 6

St Stephen’s School’s main Primary subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, French, Sport, The Arts, Biblical Studies, Library Studies and Digital Learning. There are subject-specialist teachers in several key learning areas including Music, Sport and Art. 

Digital technologies are integrated into every subject, enabling students to learn key digital skills across their broader learning landscape. Specialist Digital Learning mentors and the School’s iDigital program promote strong digital citizenship and responsible use of technology. 

St Stephen’s School operates under the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program Many2One, from Year 5-12, which allows students to use multiple devices for educational purposes. 

The Primary curriculum is offered alongside a variety of co-curricular activities. Service Learning opportunities, from giving time and philanthropic pursuits to visiting remote schools in the vast Kimberley region, open doors to different ways of life, learning and living.

Years 7 - 10

Year 7-10 students are taught under the guidance of the Australian Curriculum and WA K-10 outline. Every student studies English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical Education and Health, and Biblical Studies. They also gain experience in a range of elective subjects during the first two years of secondary schooling, participating in electives such as French, Music, Computing, Food and Textiles, and Sport. 

In Year 9 and 10, a range of elective subjects compliment core subjects, allowing students to specialise in their chosen fields including Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering, Drama, Materials, Outdoor Education, Design and Digital Technologies, French and Economics.   

Years 11 – 12

In senior Secondary School, Year 11 and 12 students define which pathway will best set them up for success. Each student has access to our Career advisors to work towards finding the best path for them. This could be a direct entry pathway, certification entry pathway or a further training or employment pathway.
