Migrating to Perth

Skilled migration enables you and your family to live, study and work in Western Australia as permanent residents.

StudyPerth is proud to work closely with the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD), which has provided an overview of the State Nominated Migration Program, the application process and other migration initiatives below.

Changes effective immediately

On 1 July 2023, the WA Government undertook the following changes to address skill shortages in WA:

  • 331 Eligible occupations 60% increase
  • 8140 nomination places 61% increase
  • $200 Application fee waived
  • Demonstration of settlement funds removed
  • English language requirements reduced
  • Employment contract requirements reduced
  • Work experience requirement reduced

Streams of State Nominated Migration Program

This list notes 331 eligible occupations (2022-23). The basic requirements include:

  • Available occupation on Graduate occupation list
  • Department of Home Affairs visa requirements (be able to score 65 points or more and be under the age of 45)
  • Competent English
  • Valid Skills Assessment
  • Completion of at least one WA qualification (Certificate III or higher)
  • 2 years of full-time study, on campus, through face-to-face delivery at an accredited WA education provider

This list notes 89 eligible occupations (2022-23). The basic requirements include:

  • Available occupation on the WASMOL schedule 1
  • Department of Home Affairs visa requirements (be able to score 65 points or more, and be under the age of 45)
  • Competent English
  • Valid Skills Assessment
  • Work experience (1 year in Australia OR 1 year overseas)

This list notes 188 eligible occupations (2022-23). The basic requirements include:

  • Available occupation on the WASMOL schedule 2
  • Department of Home Affairs visa requirements (be able to score 65 points or more, and be under the age of 45)
  • Competent English
  • Valid Skills Assessment

Additional Initiatives for Skilled Migrants

Rest assured knowing there are a series of government initiatives to connect you to employment in WA, including the $4.25 Skilled Migration Job Connect Program.

Skilled Migrant Employment Register

This Skilled Migrant Employment Register connects skilled migrants with Western Australian jobs – with over 5,000 skilled migrants and 160 employers already registered to date.

 

Skilled Migration Job Connect: Subsidy Program

This program provides up to $7,500 of financial support to enable onshore migrants to undertake approved employment-related activities – such as skills assessments, gap training and occupational licensing requirements.

 

Australian Workplace Mentoring Program

Australian Red Cross, supported by Job Connect, will continue and expand the City of Stirling's successful Kaleidoscope Initiative to regional WA. This initiative will connect skilled migrants with local mentors in their desired field and assist them in securing employment in WA that aligns with their overseas qualifications and experience.

 

Australian Workplace Cultural Awareness Training

Australian Red Cross, in collaboration with Evolve WA, will be running the Kaleidoscope Initiative to offer this free five-day program. The program aims to equip skilled migrants in Western Australia with essential knowledge in workplace communication, employment rights, pay, and obligations.

 

Settlement Services

This free metropolitan walk-in service equips migrants with essential information and referrals to assist them in establishing their new life in WA. Regional services are coming soon.

 

Construction Visa Subsidy Program

This program aims to attract skilled migrants to the residential and commercial construction sector by providing grant payments of up to $10,000 to offset expenses such as migration agent fees, visa application fees and relocation costs.
