Chef Don Hancey | WA Food Ambassador
As the WA Food Ambassador Don now consults to some of Western Australia’s iconic food companies assisting them with marketing, product development, placement and generally being the link “The Story Teller” between WA Food producers, Chefs and the general public.
Passion is the best word to use when describing Don. After a long and successful career running 3 of WA’s finest regional kitchens, Don has become WA’s Food Ambassador through his continual support and dedication to WA food producers.
Don was awarded Western Australia’s Good Food Guide Governors’ Award for Charity and Philanthropy in 2013 by the then Governor Malcolm McCusker.
Don’s 40-year plus strong Food Career has endowed him with vast experience and he has been an owner operator since the age of 23.
His company Don Hancey Consulting is involved in major food festivals and events across Perth and also in many of WA’s regional areas where they bring skills, knowledge and passion to Commercial and Community events.
Don also now operates 3 Commercial Kitchens in Perth hired out to Chefs, Caterers, small food producers, RTO's as well as the general public. These brand new kitchens are ideal for food business startups and can operate as Cloud Kitchens at night.
Chef Sophie Budd | Trainer
Sophie Budd’s culinary career began early on, helping her parents cook a full English breakfast at their bed and breakfast in Cornwall, UK. After graduating from Catering College at the age of 18, Sophie sought opportunities to further develop her own creativity, becoming a Head Chef in a 16th Century Inn at the age of 21.
Sophie’s culinary repertoire flourished whilst working at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, followed by Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall restaurant as Chef de Partie, where she developed and refined her culinary techniques, especially with seafood, hand made pasta and gnocchi.
Sophie opened Taste Budds Cooking Studio in 2012, a cooking school fully dedicated to teaching home cooks how to make delicious meals and how to minimise food waste in everyday living. Closing the doors at the end of 2019 she is now concentrating on Catering and Team Building and other opportunities.
Sophie has infused flavours from her global travels with WA produce, bringing acclaim from journalists and diners alike. She has participated in multiple Food and Wine Festivals around the State as well as cooking with some of the worlds greatest chefs including Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo.
She gives back to the community by working with Tranby Homeless Centre (Uniting Care Australia) with corporate companies to cook food that would otherwise go to land fill and provides nutritional and delicious food to the homeless.
