Start Semester 2 in Perth

Start Semester 2 in Perth - the city of opportunity and optimism!

Western Australia is leading the nation’s recovery, with the strongest economic growth in the country. Perth has always been a world-class education destination and one of the world's most liveable cities, so make the change to studying, living and working in Perth this year.

Why Perth?

  • Western Australia's economy strongest in the world

Western Australia has been praised for having the best economy in the entire world with global credit rating agency S&P deeming WA’s economy the best in the world during 2020-21.

Despite COVID-19, Western Australia has delivered the strongest projected economic growth in the country. Australian Bureau of Statistics National Accounts data released 2 December 2020 highlights that WA was the only State to grow in annual average terms, rising 0.3 per cent where the national domestic economy contracted by 2.2 per cent.

The Western Australian economy (gross state product) grew in real terms by 1.4% in 2019‑20; one of only two states to grow during the year. This economic growth compounds Western Australia’s pre-existing economic strengths, with historical gross state product performing 35 per cent above national average per capita and almost half of Australia's annual exports of goods originating from the state.

The strong economy, combined with its natural advantages and appeal, is why Perth is emerging as Australia’s city of opportunity and optimism.

  • Western Australia is full of opportunity

Western Australia has become an enterprise powerhouse, with 32 per cent of ASX-listed companies calling Perth home to their corporate headquarters. Western Australia’s economic strength generates career and knowledge opportunities, no matter what industry you’re in.

    For example:

    • 6 of the world’s top 10 energy companies have Perth headquarters: Shell, Chevron, Rio Tinto, BHP, Inpex, Woodside
    • Perth has the 4th highest density of engineers in the world, with 22 engineers per 1000 people.
    • 60 per cent of global mining software is developed in Perth
    • Perth is home to the largest medical treatment, research, and education centre in the southern hemisphere

Western Australia also has a booming startup scene, with the state being recognised as a global hub for entrepreneurial talent. As a result, startups in Western Australia receive twice the national average of angel investment. StudyPerth recognises that a significant number of international students have the aspiration to start their own business, which is why the Student Hub is co-located with Spacecubed; a co-working community built on innovation culture designed for all, from entrepreneurs through to Fortune 500 companies.

  • Western Australia's wages are 8% higher than the national average

Western Australia has a history of being a desirable place to work, with average wages 8 per cent above the national average.

The Western Australian jobs market continues to go from strength to strength with all employment indicators moving in the right direction. As a result, 98.5 per cent of jobs lost during COVID-19 have already been recovered.

StudyPerth also provides employment services especially for international students.  These include recruitment events and the StudyPerth Jobs Board, linking international students with employers.

  • We will help you find a job

StudyPerth and education providers place a strong emphasis on helping students with their employability attributes to improve their graduate outcomes. There are many events and services available for students in-person at the StudyPerth Student Hub and, virtually, through StudyPerth ProsPERTM.

  • Visa benefits are on offer when studying in Western Australia

Perth recently received a new designation, allowing the city to offer additional attractions to international students and additional opportunities for them to prosper after they complete their studies.

The new designation allows access to an additional year in Australia on a post-study work visa and improved access to migration visas. The Department of Home Affairs has indicated Perth students may apply for one of the two new skilled regional provisional visas for skilled migrants who want to live and work in areas outside the three over-crowded cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Perth has always offered a warm welcome and we are looking forward to opening the doors to more international students.

  • Experience Western Australia's sensational lifestyle

Perth is a safe, friendly and welcoming city famous for offering an enviable quality of life. Its Mediterranean climate makes Perth Australia’s sunniest capital city and a well-deserved reputation for clear blue skies, thriving vinyards and pristine beaches.

It’s easy to explore Perth and surrounds with public transport across the metropolitan region and discounts on fares for students and free services within three inner metropolitan regions.

These and other factors combined to make Perth officially the World’s 7th most liveable city.

Perth is also one of the most affordable destinations for students, who enjoy the lowest cost of accommodation of any Australian capital city.

  • We want to welcome you to Western Australia

Western Australia is ready, willing, and able to welcome an increase in international students to the state. Despite being the largest state in the country, Western Australia’s population density is amongst the lowest in the world. This is an appealing factor to those who call the state home and is why we can proudly say that Western Australia is big enough to matter, small enough to care.

Western Australia is one of the most diverse, welcoming and the fastest growing of all the states and territories in Australia. Over 35 per cent of people in Western Australia were born overseas, from over 190 countries.  This cultural diversity is a strength which makes for a dynamic society.

Consistently voted the friendliest city in Australia, thanks to Perth’s lively locals, engaging social scene and ease of access for first-time visitors, Perth is a wonderfully vibrant and sociable place to be, whether you’re exploring on your own or joining one of StudyPerth’s events for international students.
