International students currently living and studying in Perth have the opportunity to get their hands on a $100 Explorer Pass to encourage them to get out and about in Western Australia.

Students can register to secure an Explorer Pass at studyperth.com.au/explorerpass - registrations are open until 4pm WST Wednesday 31 March 2021 with promo codes being issued from Thursday 1 April 2021, in time for the Easter Break. Four hundred students have already registered for the promotion, demonstrating the enthusiasm of international students to get out and about and explore the state.

This program is only one of the International Student Engagement and Support Initiatives for 2021, which are being delivered in partnership with StudyPerth, the WA Government and the broader international education sector, supported by Lotterywest.

StudyPerth CEO Phil Payne said the wellbeing of international students was more important than ever.

“It has been a particularly challenging time for our international students over the last 12 months. Border closures have prevented many from returning home to visit family and friends, who are struggling in countries which have been devastated by the pandemic.”

“There are still 18,000 international students in Western Australia so we are doing everything we can to ensure the students feel safe, supported and engaged.”

“The program has been modelled on the successful Wander Out Yonder voucher campaign delivered by Tourism WA last year. It’s an innovative way for us to support our students as well as the West Australian tourism industry.”

“There is an impressive list of experiences for students to discover around the State - at the $100 price point - and they can also add their own money if they wish. The promotion has been aligned with the April and July semester breaks so students can enjoy the tours and experiences during a time when many of them may otherwise have travelled to their home country.”

“We are also working to get the message out to the students’ families back at home that they are ok; the ‘With love from #studyperth’ competition helps us do this.”

“While the students are out exploring and discovering Perth and Western Australia, we want to encourage them to use our #studyperth hashtag for the chance to win some major prizes, including five trips for two to one of our spectacular tourism regions, valued at $5,000 each.” See competition details and video animation at studyperth.com.au/comp.

“International students are valued members of our community, bringing diversity and different skills to our community and our economy. International students also create jobs and support a multitude of sectors, including retail, accommodation and hospitality.

“We want students to have the capacity to get out and explore Perth and Western Australia, especially when they can’t travel back home to be with their families during holiday breaks and may not have the financial resources to do so.”

In addition to the Explorer Pass, StudyPerth is launching a Student Engagement and Support Grant Program, providing an opportunity for education and training providers, student or community groups and associations, consulates, local government and not-for-profit organisations to secure financial support for initiatives that promote the wellbeing of our international students. The program launches at midday WST on Tuesday 30 March and applications can be submitted through StudyPerth’s website at studyperth.com.au/grants.
