Student Story: Leo Manuel Cadete (Philippines)

Studying: Certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery at the Australian Professional Skills Institute
My name is Leo Manuel Cadete and I am studying for Certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery at the Australian Professional Skills Institute.
I arrived in Perth in January 2019 from my hometown of Iloilo City (Philippines), after having visited Perth many times previously and enjoyed its mix of cultures. I love living here because you can meet lots of people from many different countries - meeting new people certainly gives you a new perspective on life.
I think Perth is a perfect place to live and learn. One of the best things about studying here is that you can work and study at the same time. It’s like applying the theory you learn in class in practical settings.
At the Australian Professional Skills Institute, the teachers and other staff are all very approachable, and the course material is great. I really enjoy using our on-campus kitchen facilities; in addition to this, our college partners with TFE Hotels, so we regularly use their state-of-the-art kitchen for our practical classes.
In my spare time, I enjoy painting and working for Lepintoora Design and Printing Solutions (founder) and the Kanto-box Restaurant (co-founder). I am also proud to have been appointed as one of StudyPerth’s inaugural International Student Ambassadors.
My advice to students looking to study in Perth is to be sure about what course you really want to study and have a great interest in it.
