Hi, my name is José Jairo García Brito from Colombia. I am currently completing a Master of International Relations through the University of Western Australia.
Why did you choose to study in Perth?
One of the main reasons I decided to study in Perth was the institution where I am completing my degree. When I was looking for a University where to study, I was not looking for cities but for great Institutions which offers me the program I wanted. Since I visited UWA for the first time and talked with an academic, I realized that was the place where I could get deep expertise in international relations, with a particular focus on the Indo-Pacific and the Indian Ocean regions.
What do you love most about living in Perth?
There are two things that I love the most about Perth. First, beaches. I have an extraordinary relationship with water. I love swimming and be around it whenever I can. In Perth, you can find the most amazing beaches with the most transparent sea you could imagine. Rottnest Island is my favourite place. It gives me peace and makes me feel thrilled every time I visit it. Second, I love the fact that Perth is a small city where you can find everything. People went out of their way to be friendly and courteous.
What do you love about your studies and institution?
My International Relations program has outstanding experts teaching about diplomacy, international conflicts, politics, and the global economy. I have enjoyed everything I have learned in the first year of my studies. I also love UWA Campus. it is beautiful to walk around the University as it has many trees, and the river is just in front of it. I like that students can join different clubs in different subjects where you can meet new people and make friends who are interested in the same things you are. That is a big plus.
What would you like to do after you finish studying in Perth?
After I finish my program, I am coming back to Colombia and compete to become a diplomat.
