I remember looking through my window seat and the flashing lights on the runway as I touched down in my new homeland. As I landed, I was greeted with a bright sky, clean air, scenic views and warm-hearted people saying, “G’day mate!”
“I’m finally in Western Australia,” I uttered.
I arrived with a few suitcases in hand, not knowing where to go. “Where could be a good spot for coffee?” I asked myself.
My Uber driver took me to Scarborough Beach where you could see the long stretch of white sand as well as the many cafes and restaurants to choose from. I thought to myself, “Perth! This is where I’m going to live.”
Welcome to my story.
My name is Angelu Ponce. You can simply call me Anj. I am currently studying for a Diploma in Project Management at Keystone College of Business and Technology in Perth, Western Australia.
You’re probably wondering why I chose Perth to live and study in. I chose Perth because according to research, it’s one of the world’s most liveable cities, and it definitely is! There’s so much to see and do. Perth has natural wonders, beautiful beaches and a clean cityscape. Perth, to me, is like an untouched paradise. This paradise offers so many things that people should see. I love living in Perth as this city is diverse and multicultural.

Furthermore, there are various communities, clubs, and organisations you can join that are very welcoming and friendly. StudyPerth is one of those and I am so grateful to be part of an organisation where international students are greatly supported through engaging activities and services.
In addition, I wanted to see a different perspective by facing my fears of living abroad whilst studying and meeting new people from all walks of life.

When I made the decision to step out of my comfort zone, I realised that it was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. If not, I could still be living under my parents’ roof thinking of the what if’s. Hence, I want to extend my gratitude to my family for they have always been so supportive of my dreams and aspirations. I have grown and learned so much.
After having graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Business Administration in the Philippines in 2018, I was eager to further my knowledge in the area of Project Management.
As a matter of fact, I pursued studying different vocational training courses in Australia in the field of Business and Education. I love studying in Perth’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector as they offer strong practical content and train you well for your desired profession.
In the long run when my studies come to an end, I would look for job opportunities that will help me further develop in my field of work and hopefully settle down in Australia. To me, Perth gives students and all people a high quality of life, amazing culture and quality health care. It is a blessing to be living in this beautiful city, and I am more than happy to welcome you and share more stories about this place that I now call Perth, Western Australia.
