New StudyPerth Chief Executive Officer Appointed
StudyPerth is delighted to announce Derryn Belford has been appointed as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Derryn is a highly-respected leader in both the public and private sectors, and brings to StudyPerth a wealth of experience in international marketing and sector development from her time at Tourism WA.
Derryn was at the helm of Tourism WA during the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the State’s tourism industry through the many issues it faced and leading Tourism WA’s efforts as it worked to provide assistance and navigate the industry through a challenging period.
More recently, she has been instrumental in the international education recovery process through her role as Project Director at the Department of Jobs, Science, Tourism and Innovation.
“International students are vitally important to WA and I know their absence has been felt during these challenging times,” Derryn said.
“Western Australia remains a great place to live, study and work, and there are many employment, social and cultural opportunities for international students across WA.
“International students add much to our diverse and vibrant community and our enduring relationships with countries throughout the world from which students come. We will continue to work towards welcoming international students as soon as it is safe to do so.
”StudyPerth is the leading organisation in Western Australia responsible for promoting the value of international education in WA, positioning Perth as an internationally recognised study destination and supporting a positive experience for international students.
Derryn said her priority will be to continue to work closely with the international education sector and the State Government to prepare to welcome students back to WA.
“I’d like to thank interim Chief Executive Officer, Tara Colyer-Long, for her efforts in leading the team during this critical time of transition, especially with the recent changes to border controls.
“I’m looking forward to continuing those efforts to ensure students are provided with all available information and support given the changed circumstances, drawing on all my experience as a leader who is passionate about the international education sector,” Derryn said.
Derryn, who holds an MBA and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, will take up the position on Monday 28 February 2022.
