On-campus support services
Most education institutions offer free student support services, which are available to access throughout your entire education journey.
In addition to general academic-related queries, student support centres provide a range of health consultation services, which can include 24/7 access to medical professionals such as doctors, nurses and counsellors.
Institutions also increasingly offer multi-lingual services too, for those who want to get some help in their native language.
So, we firstly suggest you talk to your teachers, peer mentors or colleagues to check whether your institution provide student support services and how to access those important services.
Or, you can also go to your institutions’ website and search for “support services” and see what is available and who to contact for further information.
We also know there are some great partnerships between mental health support services and education institutions available, and that our friends at Navitas English are currently working on a partnership to help students gain access to counselling services free of charge in safe and familiar environments. Overseas Student Health Cover
Australia has a special system of health insurance cover for international students called Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). You must have health cover for the length of your enrolment as part of your student visa requirements.
Many on-campus support services offer specialist health and wellbeing services for international students carrying OSHC. Ask your institution today about the services you can access with your OSHC cover.

- Multicultural Features Multicultural Futures is a dynamic, charitable organisation that works in partnership with government and other service providers to support migrants and refugees as they build a new life in Australia.
- Headspace Headspace provides tailored and holistic mental health support to 12-25 year olds. With a focus on early intervention, the team works with young people to provide support at a crucial time in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability to manage their mental health in the future.
