The WA Day long weekend is upon us! There are so many exciting and fun activities happening in Perth and around the state to celebrate everything Western Australia. Check out our list below.
But first… what is WA Day? This is a day of celebration of all Western Australians! It is a day on which we recognise our Aboriginal history, the early European settlers and the many others from all over the world who have made, and continue to make, Western Australia their home.
31 May | Western Australia of the Year Awards Gala Dinner
In addition to activities, festivals, presentations and performances celebrating our great state, there is also the chance to celebrate outstanding WA individuals and organisations through the Western Australian of the Year awards.
The winners of the award categories will be announced by WA Governor Kim Beazley on Friday at the Western Australian of the Year Awards Gala Dinner, and the overall Western Australian of the Year will be selected from these winners.
1-2 June | Kylie on Stage
Learn more about Australia’s favourite pop princess Kylie Minogue at the Kylie on Stage exhibition at the WA Maritime Museum. Celebrating the extravagant costumes and magical moments from her 25-year international concert career, the exhibition is a must-see for Kylie fans and fashion-lovers – the works of Dolce and Gabbana, John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier, as well as local designers such as Peter Morrissey and Mark Burnett, will be on display.
1-3 June | Visit some markets
Sorrento Quay markets, Scarborough Sunset Markets Winter Edition, the South Perth Community Market… there is no shortage of market options this WA Day long weekend!
2 June | WA Day Festival (Fremantle)
See the City of Fremantle come alive with all-things WA at the WA Day Festival at the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour. This free event will be a cultural explosion featuring world heritage and culture, music, dance, cuisine and arts showcasing the rich cultures that collectively represent our truly unique Western Australian community.
2 June | What You Need – INXS Tribute
What better way to celebrate WA and its people than by attending an event all about INXS?! Originally formed in Perth in 1977, INXS became one of the world’s biggest rock bands. At What You Need at The Carine, you’ll be treated to a six-piece band comprising of some of Perth’s most accomplished musicians, all of whom will bring to life your favourite INXS hits on an authentic high energy live concert experience.
2-3 June | WA Day Festival (Perth)
Featuring Perth’s best food trucks, the Synergy Eat Street, a gold panning activity in the ‘arts meets science’ zone, spectacular fireworks and more, this free two-day event has moved to Burswood Park in 2019, and promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Sunday 2 June will also see the return of SNACK, a free 18+ party like no other. Featuring a massive silent disco, festival rides, a glitter station and more, it will certainly be a sparkling moment amongst your long weekend plans.
Can’t make it to the Burswood Park location? You’ll find a festival near you, no matter where you are in the state: Fremantle, Albany, Bunbury, Pinjarra, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Newman, Onslow, Port Hedland.
3 June | SOTA (State of the Art)
SOTA is a free, all-ages music festival featuring WA’s biggest and best home-grown artists and performers. Enjoy music with a local flair from artists including John Butler, Katy Steele, Jebediah and more at Burswood Park from 12.00pm – 9.00pm. #sotafest
