We were recently delivered some good news from the WA Government, with the announcement of a new Graduate Skilled Migration List to attract the best and brightest international post-graduate students, which will allow them to work and stay in WA –after they graduate.
In the first quarter of 2018, WA struggled with a decline of 13% in international student commencements, compared with the previous two years. While we were heading into the red, South Australia and Tasmania had a 9% and 28% increase, respectively. There are numerous reasons why international student numbers have been falling in Perth but matters certainly weren’t helped when the State Migration Occupation List was cut and Perth’s regional status removed. The introduction of the Graduate Skilled Migration List is a move in the right direction and we await further details so we can promote this initiative to prospective students and our agent networks.
Perth is safe, multicultural and exciting with world-class education institutions. So we’re delighted to have this opportunity to promote our wonderful city as welcoming and supportive to international students.
